In integrated cockroach management for Pest Control in Castle Hill
Cockroaches are major pests of many commercial
and domestic establishments. The first step to achieve effective control is a
regular inspection for evidence of cockroach infestation, followed by treatment
and environmental management, To be effective, the first two steps should be
carried out by a Proven Pest Control Pest Management Professional (PMP).
Inspection;
The Proven Pest Control Technician in Castle Hill has the training and the experience to know what to look for and
determine the best treatment method. The PMP can identify the species and
source of infestation as well as where the cockroaches are hiding and breeding.
Treatment:
The PMP will selectively apply treatment to the habitats where the cockroaches
live and breed.
Environmental Management:
Cockroaches can be difficult to control so any treatment approach would be
greatly assisted when environmental management issues are also addressed.
Treatment approach
The
majority of cockroach treatments involve the use of residual liquid sprays, gel
baits and to a lesser extent, dusts. Most liquids used for cockroach control
over the last 10 years have been Synthetic pyrethroids. Synthetic pyrethriods
are repellents so once a
cockroach encounters the insecticide, it becomes more excited and active. The
PMP's clients may even see more cockroaches during the day, indicating that the
insecticide has affected the cockroaches.
More
recently non-repellent residual insecticides that pests can't detect have been
introduced. These are relatively slow acting and allow the cockroach to have
more contact and transfer the insecticide back through the colony.
Non-repellent insecticides (such as Arilon) can be used in conjunction with
gels and baits for improved control. This is a major benefit over the synthetic
pyrethroids, which tend to repel cockroaches away from the gels.
Arilon is a non repellant insecticide. It is a
20% WG (water dispersible granule) formulation of indoxacarb designed
specifically for the pest management industry. As shown in Figure 1, it has a
strong affinity to attach itself to insects for excellent performance.
Non-repellent cockroach gels such as Advion Cockroach Gel (also containing
indoxacarb) attract cockroaches to feed on them_ The gel is placed where the
pest will come into contact with the insecticide. As is their natural
behaviour, they will continue to preen and groom.
